Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his position following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach commented.

“It would be great to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Reaction

Slot lamented familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.

“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with results like these.”

He finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
